Leadership and Innovation in NTE: Boosting R&D Development from Murcia

At NTE, we pride ourselves on being leaders in innovation, setting the standard as pioneers in R&D development at our Murcia-based factory.

Beyond adopting the conventional role of a manufacturer, at NTE we embrace challenges with a unique and creative perspective. We don’t simply create lighting solutions; we create exceptional lighting experiences.

A customised approach: tailor-made solutions for each customer

When a client entrusts us with a project, we immediately immerse ourselves in their vision. This initial connection goes beyond understanding; it involves appreciating the unique essence of each project and drives us to exceed expectations every step of the way.

The essence of our philosophy lies in adaptability. Whether modifying existing solutions from our catalogue or proposing a completely new design, we strive to ensure that each luminaire not only meets functional requirements, but also blends harmoniously and aesthetically into its surroundings.

Luminaire cycle: lighting + architecture

An example of this, or perhaps the best of them, is Cycle’s creation for the Avenida del Mediterráneo in Benidorm.

In collaboration with Guía Consultores – Civil & Architectural Engineering, we designed a luminaire and the processes to manufacture it. It is a 4m diameter toroidal luminaire suspended at a height of 6m by means of a catenary system which, complying with all the regulations required for outdoor lighting, appears as an essential and perfectly integrated element within the project. This project has become a national and even international benchmark.

Grow Lighting: Grow Lighting line

At NTE, beyond our dedication to creativity and adaptability, we position ourselves as a leading force in manufacturing and research and development (R&D) in the growth lighting sector, presenting an extensive range of products. We stand out, not only for the variety of our offerings, but also for our ability to adapt them to specific projects.

Instituto Murciano De Investigación y Desarrollo Agrario y Medioambiental

One of them is the project together with the Instituto Murciano De Investigación y Desarrollo Agrario y Medioambiental (IMIDA), a public research centre that aims to find science-based solutions in the agri-food and environmental field that will enable regional companies to adopt efficient and sustainable production technologies.

We installed shelves with integrated multispectral growth lighting, this installation allows them to perform up to 15 different tests in an area of 12 m2, which means maximum use of resources. This is a laboratory control system with independent light spectrum management per shelf, where each shelf offers exceptional versatility with between 1 and 6 control channels, allowing precise management of the chosen light spectrum. With wattages ranging from 200W to 500W, and an output of up to 1345µmol/s-1, it adapts to a variety of grow lighting needs. Its time control capability adds an extra dimension to customisation, and the possibility of requesting personalised light spectra guarantees a specific response on demand.

An innovative and efficient project that will provide a much better understanding of plant growth and move towards a more sustainable world.

Another of our most recent works within Grow lighting is the project for RIJK ZWAAN IBERICA in Almeria.

An installation of 160 luminaires with a specific spectrum tailored to accelerate seed growth has been successfully implemented. These luminaires, belonging to a special catalogue variant called Heliabis and adapted according to a specific support structure, have proven their efficiency by optimising the number of units required at a height of 4 metres. This customised design has replaced 600W metal halide floodlights, resulting in a reduction in energy consumption of around 40%. In addition, the thermal efficiency of these luminaires has led to an additional 20% saving in energy used for cooling the environment.

Lighting cities with microalgae: reducing carbon footprint

Together with the University of Murcia, we embarked on an innovative project with a very ambitious goal: to create a luminaire that does not “weigh down” the planet.

The aim was to devise a device with a negative carbon footprint, eliminating the CO2 generated during its production and maintenance at the end of its life.

This revolutionary design, developed in conjunction with the brilliant researchers at the University of Murcia, features transparent bioreactors where microalgae are grown and photosynthesise, not only generating light, but also capturing carbon dioxide from the environment and releasing oxygen into the air. Moreover, this autonomous system is solar-powered, making it a completely sustainable solution.

Its integration in outdoor areas and shared places is a valuable complement to existing vegetation, thus contributing to mitigate the environmental impact in urban environments and to reduce electricity consumption, generating a negative carbon footprint. Furthermore, the biomass resulting from the algae cultivated in the bioreactors can have versatile applications, serving as fertiliser for plants or in the pharmaceutical industry.
